Company forester featured in “Voices of the Boreal” DVD

Inside Education is a provider of environmental education programs focusing on forests, water, energy and related topics. Millar Western has worked with the non-profit group for many years, hosting teacher tours of our mills and woodlands and supporting the development of resources for Alberta teachers and students.

Recently, Inside Education produced an impressive new video destined for use in schools in Alberta and elsewhere. Called “Voices of the Boreal,” the DVD tells the stories of five people living, working and learning in the boreal forest.

One segment follows in the footsteps of Millar Western Woodlands Planning Supervisor Ray Hilts. As he works, Ray describes the complexity of the forest ecosystem and the challenges of sustainable forest management, leaving a vivid impression of the beauty and endless fascination of the boreal forest.

Also featured in “Voices of the Boreal” are an aboriginal man working in the oilsands, a wildlife biologist tracking caribou, a young woman starting her career as an oil and gas engineer, and a teacher living and raising his family in the forest. The variety of perspectives and insights are sure to enhance student awareness of the scope and significance of the boreal.

Teachers can order the five-segment DVD at no cost from the Inside Education, at www.insideeducation.ca.
