Environmental Coordinator – Maternity Leave Contract

Millar Western Forest Products is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Environmental Coordinator to join our team at the Slave Lake Pulp Mill. This is an 18-month maternity leave opportunity.

In this role, you will provide hands-on coordination and technical support for environmental programs, regulatory compliance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with operations, maintenance, engineering teams, contractors, and external stakeholders, you will support environmental monitoring and reporting programs, coordinate contractors, manage trial and chemical initiatives, participate in audits, and conduct data analysis related to the effluent treatment system and Bio-Energy Plant. This position also supports Millar Western’s commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will possess a post-secondary diploma or degree in Environmental Sciences, Wastewater Management, Engineering, or a related discipline, along with three to five years of experience in an industrial environment, preferably within the pulp and paper industry.

The ideal candidate will have practical knowledge of wastewater treatment systems, environmental monitoring and compliance programs, sampling protocols, and data management practices. Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 17025 standards would be considered an asset. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced industrial setting.

The successful candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including advanced Excel skills, and comfortable working with process historians and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operators, technicians, contractors, regulators, and management are critical to success in this role.
