Draftsperson/Designer

Millar Western’s Whitecourt Pulp Division is seeking a Draftsperson / Designer to support capital projects, maintenance initiatives, and continuous improvement activities across the operation. Reporting to the Engineering Team, you will be responsible for preparing and maintaining detailed mechanical and industrial drawings, developing design packages, and supporting the successful execution of projects from concept through implementation. Working closely with engineers, maintenance personnel, operations staff, contractors, and vendors, you will develop practical design solutions that support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mill equipment and systems.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will possess a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, or a related engineering technology discipline, along with a minimum of two years of drafting or mechanical design experience in an industrial, manufacturing, engineering, consulting, or construction environment.

Eligibility for registration, or registration as a CTech or AScT through ASET, is considered an asset.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced proficiency with AutoCAD and 3D modeling software, along with experience developing manufacturing, fabrication, and installation drawings. Experience working in a heavy industrial environment such as pulp and paper, forestry, oil and gas, mining, or manufacturing would be considered an asset.

Candidates should have a solid understanding of engineering drawings, fabrication practices, welding symbols, and mechanical systems. Familiarity with piping systems, pressure equipment, rotating equipment, and industrial processes is highly desirable.

Knowledge of applicable industry standards, including CSA, ASME, and API codes, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering document management systems, will support success in this role.

Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, combined with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, are essential.
