Millar Western is working with the Town of Whitecourt and other partners on a project aimed at curbing erosion that has already damaged recreation trails and other local amenities along the Athabasca River, and is threatening to claim additional property.  The project entails constructing erosion control “spurs” (rock structures), as well as enhancements to ensure maintenance of fish habitat.  The structures were engineered by Stantec and are being built by Kana Oilfield, with funding provided by the federal and provincial governments, the Town of Whitecourt and Millar Western.  Most of the work is being conducted from our Whitecourt mill site, so Millar Western’s Marcel LeCoure (L) and Kana project lead Bo Jackson (R) have been working closely on project access and safety.  Both report they’re pleased with how the job is progressing: “We’ve had excellent support from Millar Western,” says Jackson, “it’s one of the best projects I’ve worked on.”
