Millar Western helps bring Christmas cheer to Edmonton

It’s never been an easy task, delivering a giant Christmas tree into the heart of downtown Edmonton to help the people of the city celebrate the holidays. This year, the Millar Western crew had to overcome more than the usual share of challenges to get the job done, not least of which was the sheer, mammoth size of this year’s tree.

They did get the job done, though, safely and in grand style, delivering a beautifully shaped, 65-foot tree to Edmonton in the late hours of Wednesday, November 13th. On Thursday and Friday, EPCOR decorated the tree with 14,000 lights and on Saturday, a crowd of many thousands gathered in Churchill Square to celebrate the season and watch as Santa Claus and Mayor Don Iveson led the count-down to the lighting of the tree.

2013 marked the ninth consecutive year Millar Western has provided a hand-cut, giant Christmas tree to bring sparkle to the city’s festive season. For their extraordinary efforts this year – and for the beauty of the tree they delivered — Millar Western forester Max Matthews and his team of fellow employees and crew from Brad’s Picker Truck Services earned great appreciation from event organizers, from Mayor Iveson and from Mr. Claus, himself.
