Millar Western provides City of Edmonton’s Christmas tree
In keeping with yuletide tradition, Millar Western has harvested a giant white spruce from the forest near Whitecourt and delivered it to downtown Edmonton for the city’s holiday celebrations. It’s the seventh consecutive year the company has provided the city’s “Tree of Lights”. The challenge of felling, loading, delivering and installing the 70-foot tree was undertaken again this year by Millar Western Wood Procurement Forester Max Matthews and a team including driver Shawn Prokipchuk of Ron Prokipchuk Trucking Ltd. Once safely erected by Max and Shawn in Churchill Square, the tree was decorated with more than 14,000 LED lights by a crew from EPCOR. The City’s light-up event, complete with fireworks, live entertainment and Santa, was held Saturday, November 19, before a well-chilled but appreciative crowd. Since then, the majestic tree has been shining brightly, helping Edmonton residents and visitors celebrate Christmas and other holidays of the season. The Tree of Lights will remain on display in Churchill Square through January 9.
