Fox Creek project on schedule
Since the project to rebuild the Fox Creek sawmill was announced in June 2010, construction has progressed rapidly and is on schedule for a late 2011 start up. As of August, concrete footings for the trimmer building and east side of the sawmill, as well as the sawmill walls, had been poured. The old stacker has been removed in preparation for installation of high-speed replacement model. Conveyors acquired from a decommissioned mill in Saskatchewan were being modified to integrate into the mill design, and log deck components were being built.
The $45.8 million rebuild project will involve replacement of the sawmill, upgrades to the planer mill, addition of two kilns, installation of an automated lumber-grading system, and yard improvements to enhance log storage/handling and fire suppression capability. The mill will produce 117 million board feet per year, up 52 million board feet from the previous mill’s capacity.
