Millar Western’s Whitecourt pulp mill named EnviroVista Leader
Joining the company’s Whitecourt sawmill, named among the program’s inaugural members in 2005, Millar Western’s totally chlorine-free bleached chemi-thermo-mechanical pulp (BCTMP) mill has been recognized by Alberta Environment as an EnviroVista Leader.
Introduced to encourage corporate efforts to voluntarily exceed regulatory environmental requirements, the EnviroVista Program recognizes operations that have implemented robust environmental management systems and have a record of exemplary emissions performance and environmental compliance. “Leader” is the program’s highest level of recognition.
Whitecourt pulp mill and sawmill Environmental Coordinator Jeff Shipton noted that continuous improvement of environmental performance is a key part of planning in all Millar Western operations. “We keep setting the bar higher, not just in terms of environmental responsibility, but also in employee safety, product quality and operating efficiency. Our employees can all be very proud of their efforts.”
