Millar Western offers scholarships to Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation students.
Having lived and worked closely together for many years, the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation and Millar Western signed a Forestry and Economic Development Agreement (FEDA) in 2004, setting new opportunities and responsibilities for joint action in environmental stewardship and economic development.
Among the activities outlined under FEDA, Millar Western supports Alexis community members in their pursuit of higher education by making scholarships available to students attending post-secondary educational institutions. The scholarships are funded by Millar Western and administered by FEDA’s Environmental Co-Stewardship Committee (ECSC), which includes representatives of the community, the company and the provincial government. Under the program, six scholarships, valued at $1000.00 each, are made available every year to eligible students.
With September 14 set as the deadline for 2007 scholarship applications, the Millar Western/Alexis ECSC has launched STEP UP! – a campaign to get the word out to Alexis students. See the links below for more information:
