http://www.csa-international.org/product_areas/forest_products_marking/default.asp?language=english The Saskatchewan forest operation supplying 100% of the fibre to the Meadow Lake pulp mill managed by Millar Western has now achieved certification under the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Z809 Sustainable Forest Management Standard. Mistik Management Ltd., a forest management company that is co-owned by Millar Western and the Meadow Lake Tribal Council, received its CSA certification effective August 16, 2005. Millar Western’s Alberta forest operations, supplying our Whitecourt and Boyle pulp and lumber facilities, are on track to achieve CSA certification in 2006.

CSA is Canada’s national forest certification initiative. Designed to provide assurance that forests are being managed according to established principles of sustainable forest management, the CSA program has gained the endorsement of the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), the world?s largest forestry certification scheme.

Earlier this year, Millar Western obtained certification of our Alberta forest operations under ISO 14001 – the international standard for environmental management systems. The Saskatchewan forest operations were certified to ISO 14001 in 2004. The Meadow Lake pulp mill was certified under ISO 14001 in 1998, while our Whitecourt pulp operation was certified in 1996, making Millar Western the first company in North America and our mill the second pulp mill in the world to achieve ISO 14001 certification. In 1995, our Alberta pulp, lumber and forest operations became the first to be certified under FORESTCARE, one of the oldest and most rigorous certification initiatives in North America.
