Millar Western programs award $116,000 in student scholarships in 2013
Each year, Millar Western helps dozens of young people in the pursuit of their education and career objectives. In 2013, a total of $116,000 in company scholarships has been provided to 40 students enrolled in post-secondary studies.
Since its inception in 1988, an endowment fund established by the company at the University of Alberta has provided 783 individuals with just under $2.8 million in financial assistance; this year, 31 students entering the U of A each received the $3500 Millar Western Leadership Award. A more recent endowment to MacEwan University currently provides three $500 awards to students annually, with the fund growing to assist additional young people over time.
And, Millar Western is pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the Alexis/Millar Western Scholarship. Camillo Alexis, Sandra Bruno, Andrea Kootenay, Chloe Mustooch, Danica Pawlick-Potts and Betty Petawaysin have each received $1000 awards in support of their post-secondary studies. The scholarships are provided under the Millar Western/Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation Forestry and Economic Development Agreement. Funded by Millar Western and administered by a committee representing both the forest company and the First Nation community, the Alexis/Millar Western scholarship program has awarded a total of $49,000 in funding since 2005.
Millar Western is very pleased to take part in programs that encourage young people to strive for the best as they pursue their life goals. Congratulations to all 2013 award recipients!
