Millar Western offers scholarships to Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation students
The Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation and Millar Western have developed close ties, having worked together on the land for many decades. These ties were strengthened with the Forestry and Economic Development Agreement (FEDA), which outlines responsibilities and opportunities for environmental stewardship and economic development.
Among the activities covered by FEDA, Millar Western offers scholarships to Alexis students pursuing post-secondary education. Six awards of $1000 are made available every year to eligible students. Funded by Millar Western, the scholarships are administered and awarded by the FEDA Environmental Co-Stewardship Committee (ECSC), whose members represent both the community and the company.
With September 18 set as the deadline for this year’s scholarship applications, the ECSC has launched STEP UP! – a campaign to get the word out to Alexis students. See the links below for more information about the 2009 Alexis/Millar Western Scholarship Program:
