Millar Western hosts “Green Ride for Green Jobs” in Whitecourt

On June 10, we welcomed cross-Canada bike rider and Project Learning Tree Canada Green Jobs Manager Zac Wagman and his brother Nick to Whitecourt. The brothers are on a four-month “Green Ride for Green Jobs,” cycling wooden bikes across the country to help spread the word about work experience opportunities for young people in the forest and conservation sectors.

Zac and Nick met post-secondary students working for the summer in our woodlands, pulp and lumber operations. They visited the Huestis Demonstration Forest, met over lunch with community leaders, school officials and Millar Western staff, then toured the company’s pulp mill and sawmill. Through the day, our student interns showcased their work and shared thoughts on their work experiences and career goals.

Zac commented, “We’re riding to let people know about the huge range of careers found in forestry and other green sectors across Canada. It’s exciting to find so many of those opportunities available here in the Whitecourt region, and to have met these impressive young women and men already working in jobs based on sustainable forestry.”

Millar Western is focused on promoting diversity in our workplaces and creating opportunities for all young people to gain valuable career skills, find rewarding employment, and develop their full potential. We are proud to be part of the Green Jobs program, and to support Zac and Nick on their Green Ride.
