Environmental Coordinator/Engineer
Application deadline: December 31, 2024Millar Western’s Quesnel River Pulp Division is seeking a highly motivated Environmental Engineer to join the Technical Department.
The successful candidate will be focused on optimizing the mill’s environmental performance and ensuring regulatory compliance. This position primarily supports the wastewater treatment plant operations and related systems. Key responsibilities include reviewing daily operations, assisting with troubleshooting and optimization, establishing KPIs, prioritizing maintenance, and identifying training needs for operators. The role also involves communicating environmental performance, liaising with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical teams, and maintaining compliance with regulations and licenses. Additional duties include managing environmental reporting (GHG, NPRI, etc.), supporting the Environmental ISO System, advancing sludge management, and planning for effluent system shutdowns.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a degree or diploma in Applied Sciences, Science, Engineering, or Technology. Eligibility for EGBC registration would be an asset. Experience in wastewater treatment, environmental regulations, or laboratory work in the pulp and paper or chemical industries is preferred. The candidate should also meet the requirements of a Qualified Environmental Professional. We’re looking for someone eager to learn, with strong leadership skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and excellent organizational and decision-making abilities. Strong interpersonal skills, mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and external agencies are essential.
