Mayerthorpe trestle bridge replaced, rail line reopened
Kudos to CN Rail on their success in restoring a vital transportation link, less than three weeks after the trestle bridge at Mayerthorpe was destroyed by fire. About 10% of Alberta’s forest products are shipped along the line, along with other goods and commodities. CN crews worked around the clock for 20 days to replace the 1,200-foot wooden trestle bridge, which burned to the ground on April 26. Along with a lot of sweat and elbow grease, about 190,000 tonnes of steel, concrete and fill went into building the new bridge, which was reopened May 16. Well done!
