Millar Western joins FPAC

Millar Western has become the newest member of the Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC).  The association represents Canada’s wood, pulp and paper producers nationally and internationally in government, trade and environmental affairs.

FPAC has grown in membership and capacity in recent years, becoming an increasingly effective and representative voice for Canada’s forest products industry.  Millar Western is confident its interests, and those of its customers and other stakeholders, will be well served by taking on an active role in FPAC’s deliberations and activities.

FPAC member companies are committed to five principles of sustainability in managing their forest lands:  harvest legally; regenerate promptly; reduce waste and promote recovery and recycling; reduce greenhouse gas emissions; and welcome independent scrutiny.  Third-party certification of member companies’ forest practices, such as Millar Western’s certification under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), is a condition of membership.

As a member of FPAC, Millar Western becomes a signatory to the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement (CBFA), an unprecedented agreement among FPAC member companies and nine leading environmental organizations, struck to conserve areas of Canada’s vast boreal forest and protect habitat for species including woodland caribou.  In this and all areas of its FPAC involvement, Millar Western will work with the association, and in cooperation with governments and other resource users and stakeholders, to ensure sustainable management of forest resources and protection of forest values for the benefit of all.

The announcement of Millar Western’s membership and more information about the association are available through FPAC’s website.
