2003/2004 Millar Western scholarships announced
The 2003/2004 University of Alberta Leadership Awards Competition has been completed and the names of the recipients announced. As always, the university received many hundreds of applications from exceptional students from Alberta, Saskatchewan and across Canada.
The UofA credits Millar Western’s endowment with having played a major role in making the Leadership Awards Competition one of the university’s most successful recruitment programs. The university says the program is key to attracting student leaders to their campus. And, in letters of thanks received by the company, students credit the scholarships with greatly assisting them to reach their academic objectives.
Millar Western was among the first and is by far the largest of the growing program’s donors. With the granting of this year’s 32 awards, the company’s endowment will have provided some $1,119,500 in scholarships to 479 students since 1989. Last year, Millar Western changed the amount of each scholarship from $2500 to $3500, to help ensure recipients benefited from a significant contribution toward rising tuition costs.
In addition to its commitment to the UofA, Millar Western provides scholarships to students of Grant MacEwan College, the University of Saskatchewan and University of Regina.
