Millar Western helps DUC and SFI extend wetlands training resources to Indigenous communities
We’re proud to share that our partner organization Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) has been awarded a Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Community Grant for an important new project. DUC and SFI will be enhancing wetlands conservation and engaging communities by providing sustainable forest management guidebooks and training resources to Alberta First Nations and Metis communities and forestry students. These resources were developed with support from Millar Western and other forest companies. Their delivery to key forest stewards will help increase training, skills development and green job opportunities, while enhancing wetlands preservation.
Wetlands are critical ecosystems providing clean water and natural flood prevention. Through the Forest Management Wetland Stewardship Initiative (FMSI), Millar Western has partnered with DUC on this and other projects aimed at conserving boreal wetlands. It’s a collaboration that is helping us integrate more effective wetland and waterfowl conservation practices into our forest management planning and field operations. Learn more about FMWSI here.
Since 2010, SFI has been awarding funds to initiatives that encourage community connection to the forest. Millar Western is proudly certified certified to the SFI sustainable forest management standard, providing our stakeholders with assurance of the responsibility of our forestry practices.
