Millar Western’s Fox Creek Wood Products Division, in Fox Creek, Alberta, is seeking a Planer Quality Control Technician. Reporting to the Planer Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of quality control in the planer. He/she will be accountable for the performance and maintenance of planer optimization systems, ensuring lumber quality is on grade per AFPA and internal requirements, and will assist others with skill development related to grade, quality and performance. Other responsibilities may include compiling, analyzing and preparing summary reports of data from trial runs, as well as helping to troubleshoot machine centre issues to address product quality.
The ideal candidate
Qualified applicants will possess a demonstrated commitment to safety combined with a lumber grading ticket, previous lumber manufacturing experience, a familiarity with computerized systems and strong troubleshooting skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as well as the ability to work effectively within a group and motivate others.
